Western Diagnosis: Reynaud’s Phenomenon

Medical History: 56 y.o. male with h/o mild HTN, BPH. Very active, a runner, healthy diet with vigorous exercise routine. On meds for HTN & BPH.

Questioning exam: Presented with c/o cold hands and feet, worse in cold weather. Hands appeared purple at distal portion pink on dorsal palms and white on proximal palms. Hands were very cold to touch.

Questioning exam: Migraine with nausea and mouth ulcers for over 10 years. Temporal and on the right side with loss of vision in the left eye and numbness in the left arm.

Dizziness on standing up

Western Diagnosis: Secondary Hypertension

Medical History: Leukemia 10 years ago, remission. Truck driver with occasional sciatica. Secondary hypertension, stress from truck driving. Eats well, exercises regularly. Drinks excessive coffee on the road.

Questioning exam: Right eye pressure and pain for one week. Pressure behind the eye. Stress and worry about money and health issues. Bp was normal on examination. Difficulty falling asleep, prone to anger and feeling overwhelmed.

Medical History: A 56 year old female presented with hot flashes. She had undergone mastectomy and chemo therapy a year prior to her first visit at my office.

She had also undergone a series of Tibetan and Chinese herbal therapies for cancer treatment with a practitioner in another state.

With her history the patient wanted to avoid anything that might cause a recurrence of her breast cancer; that is she wanted to avoid any food and/or herbs with phytoestrogens.

Herbs and Acupuncture for Diabetic Neuropathy

Chief Complaint: Lower extremity numbness, tingling, and pain for 6 years

Western Diagnosis: Peripheral Diabetic Neuropathy

Medical History: 6 years ago the patient was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes; concurrent with his diagnosis he began to experience signs of peripheral neuropathy in his lower limbs which include numbness, tingling and pain in the ankles and feet. The pain pattern is as follows: the toes are numb, the top of the sole and the sole of the feet are numb, and a numb pain and feeling of thickness with pain are felt around the ankle joint. There is also heaviness of the foot. The patient also reports a dull pain in the knees. The pain is on the yin side of the legs and the UB channel. The pain is aggravated by walking and is worse in cold wet weather. The pain is reported as a 6/10. Alleviating factors are warmth and massage.

Medical History: Patient is a 36 year old female who has a chief complaint of fibromyalgia. She has been experiencing pain in her knees, hips and low back for the past 10 years. This pain began around the same time that she had surgery for bilateral epicondylitis. This patient has experienced a lot of stress in her life related to work and a divorce several years ago. She is only able to exercise occasionally because of pain limitations. She has smoked 1 pack of cigarettes a day for the past 20 years. She does not consume alcohol or caffeine. She has a history of fibroids and gallstones, and her gallbladder was removed 5 years ago. She was also diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome 5 years ago.
