The Acupuncture Treatment of Shoulder Pain
Chief Complaint: Right shoulder pain
Medical History: Patient is a 54 year old female massage therapist seeing 10-15 people per week. She has been seeking help for this problem for the past 2 years with the results being that it takes the pain away yet it always returns. Her outlook is positive and she has healthy diet and exercise habits.
Questioning exam: The pain is worse stress and on palpitations her whole right side is tender along that gallbladder channel. Patient has bouts of insomnia which have no particular cycle.

The Treatment of Stroke with Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs
Chief Complaint: Stroke
Western Diagnosis: S/P stroke (Left cerebral)
Medical History: 51 year old female, CVA 9/99 due to hypertensive bleeding. Sustained right sided paralysis (about 90%), with cognitive difficulties. Underwent extensive rehab. Is currently on proper diet and medications.
Questioning exam: She cannot exercise, walked with a cane, favors right side. Could not use hand to grip (claw hand). Had almost total disuse of right arm and leg. Foot turned inward. She could not extend her fingers.

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs for Herpes Zoster (Shingles)
Chief Complaint: burning pain in the left hip which referred to the genital region.
Western Diagnosis: herpes zoster.
Medical History: 29 year old female with a history of vaginal infections as well as genital herpes. She is currently sexually active with several partners and is currently taking oral contraceptives.
Questioning exam: Patient complains of burning pain in her left hip which refers to her genital region. Onset of pain was on week prior to coming for treatment with progressive pain daily. The area of pain is marked by red vesicles which appear to be fluid filled. Lesions can be seen in the areas from UB31 to GB29 and to the inguinal groove on the left side.

Acupuncture Treatment for Hand Injury
Chief Complaint: Pain and immobility of hand
Western Diagnosis: Hand Crush Injury.
Medical History: Crush injury of right hand during work-accident.
Questioning exam: Continuous pain in right hand, immobility of hand and fingers with exacerbation of pain with movement. Insomnia, decline in libido and sexual performance since injury.
OM Diagnosis: Injury of PC channel, with attendant symptoms of PC organ, causing insomnia and sexual and libido decline.

Acupuncture Treatment of Shoulder Pain
Chief Complaint: Shoulder pain and reduced ROM
Western Diagnosis: Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Shoulder pain
Medical History: 69 yr old lady, sedentary, average American diet, slightly obese, mentally and socially well adapted. On Beta blocker, lasix, glucophage, and human insulin.
Questioning exam: Patient reported that she’d like to be off all her medications and would like to be able to used her shoulders which had gradually deteriorated over a period of 1 year.
Pulse exam: Crepitis in shoulders with very restricted active ROM, and pain elicited on passive ROM study. Pulse Wide, slippery, firm and forceful.

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs for Hep C and Fatigue
Chief Complaint: Fatigue
Western Diagnosis: Hepatitis C
Medical History: Patient contracted HCV, genotype 1a, 30+ years ago. His liver enzymes are elevated and fibrosis level on biopsy shows stage 3 bridging fibrosis.
Questioning exam: The patient has a very positive outlook towards life in general, but feels weighed down by overwhelming fatigue. He also suffered from diarrhea and nausia. Fatigue did not improve with exercise.
Pulse exam: The pulse was wiry, slippery and rapid on both sides. The main hara finding was oketsu, or stuck blood.

The Acupuncture Treatment of Tinnitus
Chief Complaint: Tinnitus
Western Diagnosis: Tinnitus
Medical History: 43year old Caucasian male patient had an oral surgery on his left side of his jaw 5 weeks ago. Since then he was hearing high pitch ringing sound in his left ear. Patient was healthy until this condition. He also complains of tenderness around the surgical area, and also suffers from insomnia and depression since. Healthy diet and exercises regularly.
Questioning exam: Do you have insomnia because of pain or sounds? Sounds (tinnitus)
Any medications? Taking anti-anxiety medication and took antibiotics for 2weeks after the surgery.

Acupuncture Utilized to Address MMR Side-effects
Chief Complaint: Side effects from MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) immunization
Medical History: 13 month old female in good health, 21lbs., 30″ tall. No major illnesses reported-child has never received antibiotics. No ear, nose, or throat complaints. Child drinks approx. 20 oz. of organic cow’s milk daily, otherwise she drinks room temperature water. Parents reported feeding her a variety of table foods. The child takes two naps daily and sleeps through the night. The parents reported the child as having “normal “bowel habits, although they occasionally notice some undigested food in the stool. The child is characterized as happy, easy going, and very social.

The Acupuncture Treatment of Fibromyalgia
Chief Complaint: Muscular pain/ achiness
Western Diagnosis: Fibromyalgia
Medical History: Patient: female, 42 years old
Since February 2000, patient had experienced muscular pain. In April 2000 she was diagnosed with Lyme’s dx and put on antibiotics. After no relief, a spinal tap and Tender Point Assessment test were performed. She was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in the summer of 2000. Significant medical history includes saline breast implants in 1983, gall bladder was removed in 1984 and in 1993 the patient was diagnosed with severe allergies and asthma. Medication at the time of visit included Arthrotec and Maxalt.
