Western Diagnosis: Osteoarthritis
Medical History: Patient shot competitive target archery as a teen and wore shoulder joint out. He shot 3+ hours per day 7 months out of the year for 9 years
Questioning exam: Left shoulder was painful, described as an ache that worsened with cold and damp. There was lots of popping and grinding in shoulder joint. There was limited range of motion.

Western Diagnosis: tinnitus
Medical History: The male patient, 56, overweight, does not keep special diet and is not exercising. The patient has a history of blood pressure.
Questioning exam: The male patient, 56, complaint of sudden ring in the left ear. At that time he was not concerned much and hoped that it will go away soon, but it did not. Soon he noticed, if he stressed the ring in the ear comes back again and stays there for a while, sometimes changing the tone.

Chinese Herbal Medicines for Epidemic Diarrhea
Chief Complaint: diarrhea and fever
Western Diagnosis: neonatal epidemic diarrhea
Medical History: A 4 day old girl was born full-term on 24/06/2003. she started to cry feebly 30 seconds after delivery. Birth weight was 2.5 kilos. Sucking power was good and she took 20 ml of 10% glucose solution two hours after birth and was fed alternately breast feedings and artificial formula composed of water and milk in a ratio of 2:1. During pregnancy 2-degree calcification spots on the placenta were shown by ultrasound.

Acupuncture Treatment of Excessive Menstrual Flow
Chief Complaint: extended menstrual cycle
Western Diagnosis: hypermennorhea
Medical History: Patient is a 42 year old female that outside of the diagnosis appears to be in good health. She is otherwise in good health, with no other chief complaints or diagnoses. Blood panels reveal occasional anemia.
Questioning exam: Menstrual cycle lasts 7 days, on average, although cycle occurs at regular intervals, otherwise. Menstrual coloration is dark red, flow is heavy for the first four days, and is accompanied by some cramping and clotting. Patient expressed a feeling of exhaustion, immediately following her cycle, and lasting up to one week.

Questioning exam: Right shoulder pain constant dull ache, to sharp pain upon movement. Pain scale 8/10. Energy level 9/10. No decreased motion in joints.

Acupuncture for Depression and Anxiety
Chief Complaint: Difficulty coping with stress; depression & anxiety
Western Diagnosis: Depression & Anxiety
Medical History: 24 year old male PhD candidate. Exercises up to 6 times a week for 1-2 hours each session. Frequently eats take out and drinks 1 caffeinated beverage each day. Works long hours. Drinks 1-3 glasses of alcohol each week. Takes Lamictal (200 mg/day), Wellbutrin (300 mg/day) and Neurontin (300 mg/day) to treat depression and anxiety. Would like to utilize acupuncture to treat side-effects of medications and for overall wellness. Medications cause drowsiness and Wellbutrin specifically can cause agitation, irritability and anxiety after taking dosage.

Western Diagnosis: Menopause
Medical History: A 56 year old female presented with hot flashes. She had undergone mastectomy and chemo therapy a year prior to her first visit at my office.
She had also undergone a series of Tibetan and Chinese herbal therapies for cancer treatment with a practitioner in another state.
With her history the patient wanted to avoid anything that might cause a recurrence of her breast cancer; that is she wanted to avoid any food and/or herbs with phytoestrogens.

Traditional Asian Medicine for Shoulder Pain
Chief Complaint: Right shoulder pain for 2 months.
Medical History: In two months ago, he started a new job where he does a tremendous amount of lifting and balancing of heavy doors and cabinets. He feels sharp and stabbing pain over his right upper trapezius muscle and around his shoulder joint when he moves his shoulder in abduction. He feels better after a massage and hot Epsom salt baths but nothing has totally relieved his pain. Physical exam revealed pain and tenderness on palpation of the right upper trapezius, biceps brachii tendon, deltoid, pectoralis minor insertion and all of the neck muscles especially the scalenes and posterior muscle group.
